Who has the balls_to change IT?

We need more female power in handball and IT.

l. Malin Altherr, National player; r. Laurentia Wolff, National player

Okay, we admit it: women's handball and IT are two worlds that at first glance have as much in common as trick shots and AI. But they do have one thing in common: Women are unique in both. In both, prejudices and traditions slow down progress. We want to change that. Here are our to-do's.

Who has the balls_
to be open minded in IT?

Courage? It doesn't take courage. At least not for the companies. For women, it might. The proportion of women in Swiss IT is around 16%. We want to change that.

We are looking for female talent, not because they are women, but because UMB is better thanks to their expertise. IT problems are so complex that we need diverse teams to find better solutions. We promote doers - and have been recognised as the best employer in Switzerland and Europe several times by the Great Place to Work Institute.

Who has the balls_
to think different?

Why exactly does women's handball get less money and attention than men's handball? No idea - but that has to change!

Women's handball is super exciting, especially because moves are not just about strength but also about smart tricks. Who hasn't seen Bleus' brilliant proof video?

At the Women's EHF EURO 2024, the best teams will be showing off their wit. We'll be there to support them loudly. So, get your tickets now and experience the real handball tricks in Basel!

Who has the balls_
to change a running IT system?

"Never change a running system": This is a dogma for reliably continuing operational IT operations. Or to completely ruin a company and lead it to the siding.

Below are the 10 biggest misconceptions about why ‘Never Change a Running System’ is the wrong strategy.

10 misconceptions as to why ‘never change a running system’ is the wrong strategy

  1. Standing still means going backwards: the IT world is evolving rapidly. If you don't change anything, you will fall behind the current standards and competitors.
  2. Ignore security vulnerabilities: Systems that are not regularly updated are more susceptible to security vulnerabilities and cyber attacks.
  3. Compatibility issues: Legacy systems may have difficulty interacting with new technologies, tools or standards, affecting efficiency and productivity.
  4. Outdated hardware and software: A system that is not updated often runs on outdated hardware and software that is more expensive to maintain and slower to perform.
  5. Lack of flexibility: An unchanged system cannot respond flexibly to new business requirements or market changes.
  1. Poor user experience: Outdated systems often do not offer the same user-friendliness or performance as modern alternatives.
  2. High costs due to technical debt: If a system is not modernised on a regular basis, it accumulates technical debt that later requires heavy investment to catch up.
  3. Less innovation: A ‘never change’ approach stifles innovation and prevents new ideas and technologies from being utilised.
  4. Reduced talent engagement: IT professionals prefer modern, innovative environments. An outdated system can negatively impact employee satisfaction and retention.
  5. Ignoring customer requirements: Customer needs and expectations are constantly changing. Companies that fail to adapt their systems risk losing their customers.

These points show that constant adaptation and further development is necessary in order to remain competitive and secure in IT.
