simplee Increases Cyber Resilience With UMB's Process and Vulnerability Analysis.
simplee, an up-and-coming start-up in the energy sector, prioritizes security for its innovative charging solutions. To establish a solid security foundation, the company engaged the UMB Security Angels to assess their security maturity against the NIST framework. UMB's expert analysis identified vulnerabilities, enabling simplee to swiftly implement corrective actions. Thanks to the measures proposed by UMB, simplee was able to react quickly and increase its cyber resilience. Those responsible now have more time for their core business.
#IT StrategyEnergy moves us: simplee AG is a company based in Dübendorf, Switzerland, specializing in solutions in the field of electromobility. Founded in 2017, simplee AG offers a wide range of products and services specifically tailored to the needs of modern electric vehicles.
Increased risk - not least due to BYOD
You wouldn't necessarily expect IT security to be a top priority for a start-up like simplee. However, the company, which specializes in charging infrastructure for electric mobility, has recognized that a cybersecurity incident could pose a threat to the company at this stage. An open company culture and regulations regarding the use of personal devices at work (BYOD), while desired by colleagues and very useful in the war for talent, can pose an increased cybersecurity risk.
How cyber-resilient is simplee?
Cybersecurity was a top concern from the outset for simplee's IT department. The company's rapid growth presented new challenges for its IT infrastructure. To address these, simplee engaged UMB security consultants to evaluate its cyber resilience using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
Security maturity according to the NIST Cyber Security Framework
The NIST Cybersecurity Framework is a structured model to help organizations identify, assess, and manage their cybersecurity risks. The Framework consists of a set of best practices, standards, and guidelines to help organizations improve their information security.
The NIST standard assessment is divided into five subject areas:
• Identify
• Protect
• Detect
• React
• Recover
Weak points precisely uncovered
Our study and subsequent presentation to senior management identified weaknesses in each of these five areas and provided specific recommendations to improve cyber resilience. Our recommendations are divided into organizational and technical measures. Nathan Dandrea, IT Manager at simplee, commented: «UMB's maturity check revealed the weaknesses in a straightforward manner. Thanks to specific recommendations, we were able to respond quickly».
