Provida: Greater security with the UMB emergency plan
During an internal analysis, the trust, tax consulting, and auditing company Provida discovered that although many processes were documented, there was no comprehensive IT emergency plan in place. Working closely with Provida, UMB consultants developed a practical plan that defines clear processes, responsibilities, and communication channels. Today, Provida is ready to act immediately in an emergency and can respond quickly to potential crises with confidence.
Provida, headquartered in Romanshorn, has been serving clients in the areas of fiduciary services, taxation, auditing, and management consulting for over 70 years with 60 employees at six locations in Switzerland—quality-conscious, solution-oriented, and authentic.
Security for emergencies – clear procedures and processes strengthen Provida's ability to act
As part of an internal analysis, Provida discovered that although many processes were documented, there was no comprehensive IT emergency plan in place. In the event of a critical incident - such as a ransomware attack - there was no structured procedure specifying who should do what and when.
A serious security incident can threaten the existence of almost any company. For the management and board of directors of this renowned service provider – which works with sensitive customer data on a daily basis – data loss, data encryption, or the potential damage to its reputation would be an unacceptable risk.
Provida therefore commissioned the experts at UMB to develop a detailed emergency plan.
Important documents stored centrally at UMB
Working closely with Provida's management, UMB gathered the relevant information, defined processes and responsibilities, and documented them clearly. Together, they developed a reporting tree, established communication channels, and defined responsibilities within the company - as well as vis-à-vis UMB.
During the project, the Provida team actively participated, supplemented missing information, and made internal decisions. In particular, all customer data had to be compiled. In a final workshop, the emergency concept was finalized and submitted to management for approval. It was particularly important to Provida to store important documents centrally at UMB so that the support team (Primary/SDM) could respond quickly in an emergency.
Well prepared and ready to act immediately – for peace of mind in an emergency
The structured collaboration resulted in a comprehensive, practical IT emergency plan that clearly defines who is responsible for which tasks in an emergency – including UMB support. Provida now has defined communication processes, deputies, emergency workrooms, and a budget for crisis situations.
This enables the company to take immediate, targeted action in an emergency, because the plan creates time at the crucial moment. Claude Gloor, Head of IT Services, comments: «Without an emergency plan, chaos reigns in serious situations. Now we know exactly what to do – and feel secure. The collaboration was pleasant, professional, and characterized by a great deal of patience on the part of UMB.»
A positive side effect: Collaboration with the UMB Cyber Defense Center in the area of endpoint detection and response (EDR) has become more efficient and closely integrated. The emergency plan will be reviewed annually and expanded to include additional specific use cases.
