High operational and administrative effort due to VDI
For its virtual workplaces, GLKB relied on a classic Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). The solution enabled flexible working, but placed a high operational and administrative burden on IT. Infrastructure, servers and virtual desktops had to be continuously operated, monitored and maintained. Applications, policies and configurations also required ongoing care. This increased complexity and tied up valuable resources.
What was needed, therefore, was a modern alternative that would reduce administrative effort without changing the user experience. The solution had to be quick to implement, leverage existing investments and integrate seamlessly into the existing Microsoft management environment. Together with UMB, GLKB therefore opted for Windows 365.
Future-ready in just two weeks
Within just two weeks, the new Windows 365 environment was set up and prepared for migration. Thanks to the existing Microsoft Intune foundation, policies, applications and device settings could largely be reused and specifically adapted for the Cloud PCs. The result: a modern, centrally managed workplace environment that remains familiar to employees while being significantly easier to operate.
With Windows 365, every employee receives a personal Windows PC from the Microsoft Cloud – secure, always up to date and available from anywhere. As Oliver Oberholzer, Systems Engineer, Glarner Kantonalbank, notes: «With UMB, we quickly replaced our existing VDI with Windows 365.
